Crotone have officially confirmed the appointment of Walter Zenga as the successor to Davide Nicola.

The Torinese Coach resigned earlier this week, in part because President Gianni Vrenna went into the dressing room at half-time in the 3-0 loss to Udinese to “fire-up the lads”.

Rumours soon began to emerge that Zenga would replace him, and the goalkeeper was in Calabria today.

Now the Squali have officially confirmed that the former Sampdoria and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has taken over the job.

“Football Club Crotone is pleased to announce that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Walter Zenga,” a statement on the club’s official website begins.

“The Coach will be presented at 18.00 in the Press room at the Stadio Ezio Scida. Zenga signed the contact at the Salvaguardia headquarters in the presence of President Gianni Vrenna and sporting director Peppe Ursino.

“His assistant will be Benito Carbone, a Calabrian, who is also a former footballer and was Coach of Ternana last season.

“The club welcomes Zenga and Carbone and wishes them good work for their new adventure.”
