Former Genoa veteran Domenico Criscito has officially joined MLS side Toronto FC on a one-year deal.

As announced by Toronto, the 35-year-old Italian centre back has signed a contract with the Canadian club lasting until the end of 2023, joining up with former Napoli talisman Lorenzo Insigne in the MLS.

Criscito will be an experienced addition to the Toronto backline and give the young players at the club a reference point.

Head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley discussed the arrival of Criscito and what he’ll bring to the club.

“Mimmo is a versatile defender who is a very good passer and a smart player. He can play as a left back or a centre back and should be an excellent role model for our young players.”

This will be the Italian defender’s second time abroad after a seven year spell with Zenit St Petersburg that lasted from 2011 to 2018. He returned to the Ligurian capital in the summer of 2018 and continued to prove his qualities as an experienced option at the back.

The arrival of Criscito also gives fellow new arrival Insigne a familiar face as he adapts to a new league and country.
