Ethan Ampadu has officially returned to Serie A on loan to Spezia from Chelsea, after his experience last season with Venezia, but there is no option to make it permanent.

The Wales international defender put pen to paper on a one-season loan with Spezia with barely an hour left to go before the transfer deadline in Italy, which is at 20.00 UK time.

Ampadu makes his return to Serie A after spending last term at Venezia, who were relegated to Serie B.

He made 30 competitive appearances for the Lagunari, in which he was sent off twice and also provided three assists.

It is reported to be a dry loan, so Spezia do not have an option to buy the centre-back, who turns 22 later this month.

A member of the Chelsea youth academy since 2017, he had loan spells at RB Leipzig, Sheffield United and Venezia before this switch to Spezia.
