Ivan Provedel has been forced to withdraw from Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad, prompting a call up for Cremonese’s Marco Carnesecchi.

The 29-year-old Lazio goalkeeper has been a key figure for Maurizio Sarri this season, consistently pulling off incredible saves to protect his goal. Provedel has kept 16 clean sheets in 27 Serie A matches this season, earning him a spot in the Azzurri squad ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

As announced today, Provedel has withdrawn from the Italy squad due to a bout of flu, forcing Mancini to find a new goalkeeper to replace him in the 30-man team.

Cremonese shot stopper Carnesecchi has been called up to replace him, being promoted from the Under-21 squad. He was at a meeting in Rome with the U-21 team before heading up to Florence to join the senior side for their afternoon training session in Coverciano.

Carnesecchi has never made an appearance for the Azzurri first team but has plenty of experience at youth level, having made 19 appearances at U-21 level since his debut in September 2019.
