Fiorentina have officially announced the appointment of Nicolas Burdisso as the new technical director at the Artemio Franchi.

The Viola officially announced Burdisso returns to Serie A, but this time in the role of a manager, having spent most of his career as a player in Italy.

The former Inter, Roma, Genoa and Torino player appeared 326 times in the Italian top flight and retired from football in 2018.

Burdisso was then appointed sporting director of Boca Juniors in Argentina, the team where he made his debut as a player in 1999.

Now the 40-year-old is moving back to Italy to start his career as a director at a new Italian club.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports the former defender arrived in Florence already back in June to take over the scouting area at the club. But Burdisso has now been given a more important role at the Viola than first expected.
