Bruno Alves – who was linked with a deadline-day move to Juventus – has extended his contract with Parma until 2020.

Alves was reportedly Juve’s first choice to come in as a defensive reinforcement after injuries to Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, but he has since committed to Parma for a further season.

“We’re proud that Bruno Alves has married into our project, extending his contract with Parma,” President Pietro Pizzarotti told the club’s official website.

“We’re convinced that the growth of our club and team passes through professionals like him, able to set an example for their teammates every day.”

The 37-year-old added: “I thank Parma for their faith in me. I feel at home here and I’m happy to be part of this family.

“I’m proud of the work that the team, staff and management are doing and I’ll give my all in every game, for this team and these colours.”

The Portuguese has played 20 times for the Ducali since arriving from Rangers last summer.
