Juventus announce Leonardo Bonucci tested positive for COVID, so Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt are the only centre-backs available against Torino.

The Juventus defender has returned from international duty with Italy and the FIGC confirmed last night four staff members tested positive for Coronavirus.

“Leonardo Bonucci, upon returning from the Italian national team, this morning underwent a diagnostic molecular test for COVID-19 which came back positive,” the Old Lady’s official statement reads.

“The player has already been placed in home isolation.”

Andrea Pirlo will be short of options at the back in the Turin derby on Saturday as Merih Demiral also tested positive for COVID while on international duty with Turkey.

Therefore Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt will be the only centre-backs available for the Derby della Mole.

Bonucci is the 11th Juventus player to test positive  for COVID since the pandemic began.

Daniele Rugani, Blaise Matuidi and Paulo Dybala had tested positive in the 2019-20 campaign, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Weston McKennie, Juan Cuadrado, Matthijs De Ligt, Alex Sandro, Merih Demiral and Rodrigo Bentancur tested positive this term.

Juventus face Torino away on Saturday and host Napoli at the Allianz Stadium in the rescheduled fixture from matchday 3.
