Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci has officially confirmed that Thiago Motta will be the new Rossoblu head coach.

Former coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was dismissed by the club earlier this week and it quickly became apparent that Motta was one of the favourites for the job alongside Claudio Ranieri, with the former eventually winning out.

Speaking in a press conference today, Fenucci confirmed the appointment of Motta, who’ll officially start from next week onwards.

“I wanted to tell you that the coach of the first team from Monday onwards will be Thiago Motta, we’re defining the last contractual aspects but I can now make it official.”

The 40-year-old Motta was most recently in charge of Spezia, who he managed to keep up in Serie A last season with 36 points from 38 games. He’ll be hoping to right the ship in Emilia-Romagna after a slow start to the season by the Rossoblu, which has left them 16th with only three points from their first five games.

Mihajlovic managed 130 matches with Bologna during his three-and-a-half year spell with the club, averaging 1.25 points per match. Across these matches, the Rossoblu won 43, drew 34 and lost 53, scoring 179 goals and conceding 208.
