Nicolò Barella has extended his contract with Inter until June 2026.

“FC Internazionale Milano is delighted to announce that Nicolo Barella has signed a contract extension with the club. The 24-year-old midfielder’s new deal will run until 30 June 2026,” Inter’s statement reads.

Barella joined Inter in June 2019. He has played 102 games with the Nerazzurri, scoring eight goals.

He played a crucial role in Italy’s EURO 2020 campaign, where he scored one goal against Belgium in the quarter-finals.

According to multiple reports in Italy, Barella will earn €4.5m-a-year, but his salary will rise gradually over the years, reaching €6m per season.

Barella was on a €2.5m-a-year deal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The Italy international will also be given the captain’s armband once Samir Handanovic leaves the club.

The Slovenian goalkeeper sees his contract expire at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if Inter will offer him a new deal.

The Nerazzurri announced Lautaro Martinez’s extension last week and hopes to tie down Marcelo Brozovic to a new contract as his current deal expires in June 2022.

Beppe Marotta has claimed that he is confident Brozovic will put pen to paper on a new deal in the coming weeks.
