Atalanta have officially announced the signing of veteran Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract with Roma earlier in the summer.

Official: Atalanta sign Rui Patricio

The 36-year-old former Sporting CP and Wolves stopper has joined La Dea on a one-year contract, until the end of the 2024-25 season.

He comes in as a replacement for Juan Musso, who joined Atletico Madrid on Tuesday afternoon, and is likely to provide cover and competition for 24-year-old Marco Carnesecchi in Bergamo.

Rui Patricio has played well over 700 professional games in his career, including 96 in Serie A with Roma, plus another 33 with the Giallorossi across the Coppa Italia and European competitions.

He has also gone to three World Cups, five European Championships and has earned 108 senior caps with Portugal.

Rui Patricio becomes Atalanta’s 10th signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Juan Cuadrado, Raoul Bellanova, Lazar Samardzic, Marco Brescianini, Mateo Retegui, Nicolo Zaniolo, Ibrahim Sulemana and Ben Godfrey. Charles De Ketelaere’s loan deal from Milan was also made permanent earlier this summer

“The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and the entire club extends a warm welcome to Rui, wishing him all the best in the Nerazzurri shirt, on a personal and team level,” Atalanta wrote in a club statement.
