Atalanta have announced the signing of Everton defender Ben Godfrey in a deal reported to be worth €10m plus bonuses.
It all moved very quickly for the 26-year-old, who flew in and had his medical this morning before signing the contract at the Zingonia training ground.
A central defender who can also play at right-back or as a defensive midfielder, Godfrey has two senior caps for England.
He came up through the York City academy, then went through Norwich and Shrewsbury experiences before the €27.5m transfer to Everton in October 2020.
As his contract was due to expire in June 2025, Atalanta were able to snap him up for circa €10m (specifically €9m plus €1m in bonuses).
However, there are also reports this evening from Sky Sport Italia that with add-ons it could reach €12m.
Atalanta chance for Godfrey
Godfrey is the second signing of the season for La Dea, who also activated their option to buy Charles De Ketelaere from Milan following a loan spell.
He made 112 Premier League appearances throughout his career, contributing three assists.
Atalanta have qualified for the Champions League next season and won the Europa League this term, beating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Final.
