Atalanta have officially announced the signing of Charles De Ketelaere from Milan on an initial loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at a later date.

It is widely believed that Atalanta will pay the Rossoneri a loan fee of €3m for the 2023-24 season, retaining the right to buy the player permanently for an additional fee of €22m plus €4m in bonuses.

Milan will also receive a 10% sell-on clause if Atalanta do decide to buy De Ketelaere outright.

The 22-year-old will wear the no. 17 shirt during his stay in Bergamo. De Ketelaere will also be registered in time for Atalanta’s first league game of the 2023-24 Serie A season, an away trip to Sassuolo this Sunday.

De Ketelaere’s Serie A journey began with a move to Milan last summer, joining for a total fee of €35m from Club Brugge, but while at San Siro, was unable to rediscover the form that convinced the Rossoneri to sign him the season prior.

In fact, he managed to go an entire calendar year without registering a goal in any competition for club or country.

However, before last season, De Ketelaere has picked up numerous awards and goalscoring accolades, including the Belgian Talent of the Year  award in 2020.

A statement from the club’s official website read: “Atalanta BC extends a warm welcome to Charles, wishing him all the best in the Nerazzurri shirt both on a personal level and with the team.”
