Atalanta have officially activated their option to buy Cristian Romero from Juventus, creating a loss of €4.8m for the Bianconeri, so he can now be sold to Tottenham for €55m.
The Argentina international defender is already in London and completed his medical exams, so we are now just waiting for the announcement.
Atalanta had taken Romero on a two-year loan from Juve in September 2020 for €2m with an option to buy for another €16m.
They activated it a year early, with a statement from Juventus confirming the €16m remaining fee is to be paid over three instalments.
This operation generates a negative effect on the Bianconeri balance sheet for 2020-21 at €4.8m.
On the other hand, Atalanta are almost tripling their money, bringing in €50m plus €5m in bonuses from Tottenham Hotspur.
Curiously, both the Romero sale to Atalanta and the Tottenham transfer for the same player were negotiated by the same man: former Juve director and current Spurs chief Fabio Paratici.
