Atalanta and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca has made a quick recovery from a thigh injury and has been called up for Saturday’s Serie A game against Bologna.

The ex-West Ham forward was not expected to return to action before 2024 after sustaining a lesion to a tendon in his left thigh at the beginning of December.

However, coach Gian Piero Gasperini has called him for tomorrow’s Serie A fixture against Thiago Motta’s Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

It’s a key game for Atalanta and Bologna’s European ambitions as only two points divide La Dea and the Rossoblu in the table.

Bologna beat Roma and Inter in the last two games across all competitions and currently sit fourth in the Serie A table.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Scamacca is expected to start on the bench against Bologna tomorrow.

Scamacca, 24, has netted six times in 14 appearances across all competitions this season. Only José Luis Palomino, Rafael Toloi and El Bilal Touré are out of action for La Dea.
