Spezia have officially sold defender Jakub Kiwior to Arsenal in a deal believed to be worth €25m plus another €5m in add-ons.

The centre-back had his medical over the weekend and put pen to paper on the contract until June 2028, which is expected to earn him circa €2.5m per season net in wages.

According to Italian sources, Arsenal have paid €25m to Spezia along with up to another €5m in various bonuses.

This is comfortably a club record sale for Spezia, whose previous biggest deal saw David Okereke join Club Brugge in 2019 for €8m.

Kiwior turns 23 next month and had only joined Spezia in the summer of 2021 from MSK Zilina for €2.2m, so represents a huge profit for the Serie A side.

“We’re delighted to have completed the signing of Jakub Kiwior. He’s a young talent who we’ve been monitoring for a while now. We are now all looking forward to working with Jakub and seeing his continued development with us. We welcome Jakub to Arsenal,” sporting director Edu told the club website.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League with 50 points from 19 games.

“It’s great that Jakub is joining us. He’s a young versatile defender who has shown huge potential and qualities with Spezia in Serie A, and also at international level with Poland,” added manager Mikel Arteta.

“Jakub is a player who will give us strength and quality to our defensive unit. We welcome Jakub and his family to Arsenal and look forward to working with him.”

Kiwior will wear the Number 15 jersey for the Gunners.

His performances with Spezia were so impressive that they earned him a place in Poland’s 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar.

He had also been linked with the likes of Milan, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, but only Arsenal were able to meet the asking price.

Tuttomercatoweb also claim that Spezia turned down proposals from RB Leipzig, Brentford and Leicester City.
