Talented forward Lorenzo Lucca will return to Pisa after Ajax decided not to activate the buy option attached to his loan deal.

The 22-year-old Italian made a name for himself in the 2021-22 season, shining in Serie B as he netted six goals and provided four assists in 30 games, quickly attracting the attention of a number of clubs.

Lucca ultimately decided to make the jump abroad and joined Dutch giants Ajax on a €1m loan deal with a reported €10m buy option attached. He showed some positive signs in the Eredivisie, netting two goals across 136 minutes of action in the league.

As announced by Ajax today, Lucca will not be signed by the Eredivisie giants, so will return to Serie B side Pisa. He’s not expected to stay with the Tuscan side, however, as Udinese are keen to snap him up.

The 22-year-old will be hoping to receive enough chances in Serie A next season to try and prove himself after a year of development in the Netherlands.
