Alvaro Odriozola believes Fiorentina can qualify for Europe after the comeback to hold Sassuolo 2-2. ‘I was stunned by the level of Serie A players.’

It was a game of two halves at the Stadio Franchi, as the visitors took a 2-0 lead through Gianluca Scamacca and Davide Frattesi goals.

After the break, Dusan Vlahovic and Lucas Torreira got it back on track, though Cristiano Biraghi saw red for two yellow cards, both for a high elbow.

Serie A | Fiorentina 2-2 Sassuolo: Viola complete comeback

“We cannot be happy, because I think we should’ve won this game. We had three or four chances in the first half, they had two shots and scored two goals,” Odriozola told Sky Sport Italia.

“The way we came out for the second half was excellent, it was a wonderful reaction, we are on the right track and must continue like this.”

This is the debut Serie A season for the full-back on loan from Real Madrid.

“I arrived in Serie A and was stunned by the level of the players, it’s so high and every team has great players. It means every match is difficult, but we’re doing well and want to keep winning.”

Biraghi’s red card rather sapped some of the momentum from Fiorentina in the final half-hour.

“It’s not the first time it has happened. I didn’t see the incident, so I cannot comment, but we are having a great season and want to keep improving to end the year on a high against Verona.

“A place in Europe is the objective and I think we have the quality to achieve it.”

  1. I watched the match and it was really intense. Great quality all round. Sassuolo were really efficient in the first half and it was rounded off with great goal-keeping from their keeper, Consigli. Fiorentina in the second half came out with a great comeback like Odrizola said with improved passing too. Great match like I expected. Got to love Serie A.
