The Bianconeri had their moments at Marassi but succumbed to their third straight Serie A loss – despite Ali Adnan’s late consolation goal.

“We played at not just an equal level, but a superior level to Sampdoria,” a frustrated Oddo remarked post-match.

“Today we played a fantastic match, but unfortunately we lacked a little experience that would have enabled us to get the result.

“We had 10-15 shots at goal, but that’s football and this time it went Samp’s way. Congratulations to our opponents.”

Oddo was asked whether he now regrets leaving out Maxi Lopez from his starting line up.

“Losing the match could make you think we made a mistake, but I assure you that what we prepared during the week we carried out on the pitch.

“The 2-1 result is a shame.”
