Juventus star Angel Di Maria added extra spice to the World Cup quarter-final by saying Louis van Gaal was the ‘worst coach I ever had,’ prompting a passionate response from the Netherlands manager.

Argentina will face the Oranje in the World Cup quarter-final on Friday and Di Maria is expected to be back in the starting XI after missing the Round of 16 tie against Australia due to a muscular issue.

Speaking to TyC Sports about his experience with Van Gaal at Manchester United in 2014, Di Maria did not hold back.

“My problem in Manchester was the coach. Van Gaal was the worst coach I ever had in my career,” said the Juventus man.

“I would score and provide an assist, but the next day all he did was show my misplaced passes. He dropped me from one day to the next, he didn’t like players to be above him in importance.”

Van Gaal was asked about these comments during his press conference with Netherlands striker Memphis Depay and the response caught the player by surprise.

“I’m sorry that Di Maria thinks that, he is one of the few I’ve worked with who says such things. When a coach makes decisions, they might not be popular with the players, but they are always for a reason.

“I also had problems with Memphis in the past, but now we kiss on the mouth.”

  1. Di Maria might have had a concussion as he did not mention the oscar academy award winning coach for best slow motion picture, PhD Max. At least Van Gaal has won the CL, coached abroad and has international level experience. The brick merchant of Livorno has a fraction of this.

  2. concussion happens to brains… at least he has one! Not like the watermelon you’re carrying above your neck. Only if you can realize how silly and boring you are.
