Guillermo Ochoa has only just arrived at Salernitana but is quickly becoming a fan favourite for his decisive work in goal.
The 37-year-old Mexican goalkeeper signed a six-month contract with the Campania outfit last week, putting pen to paper on a short-term deal with an option for a further two years. Ochoa is a staple of modern World Cups, known for rising to the occasion with Mexico, and early signs in Salerno suggest that he’s continued his form following the recent tournament in Qatar.
Ochoa was one of the best on the pitch in Salernitana’s 1-1 draw with Torino, making seven saves and conceding just one goal from an expected goals of 2.29. He’s immediately adapted to life in South Italy and is starting to become a fan favourite in Salerno.
Tuttosport highlighted how Ochoa “kept Salernitana afloat in the first half”, playing a crucial role as his team were “caught off guard”.
TMW agreed with this assessment, underlining that “like with Milan, he saves the result on more than one occasion and keeps Salernitana afloat.”
Fan site TuttoSalernitana echoed these sentiments, commenting: “Another ten or so saves, some really important, to keep Salernitana afloat in the first half, and the equaliser in the second half. A wise purchase by owner Iervolino.”
