Joel Obi admits he “cannot explain” why he was sent off against Napoli, but still apologised to Inter.

The midfielder had a very unlucky evening at San Siro during the 3-0 defeat, as he was booked for what seemed to be a clean tackle on Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Before half-time, he clattered into Christian Maggio just outside the box, but the referee awarded a penalty and a second yellow card.

“I got the ball with that tackle and Lavezzi stayed on his feet, so I really cannot explain the first yellow card,” Obi told Inter Channel.

“Then with the penalty incident it was shoulder-to-shoulder outside the area, so I don't understand why the referee gave a spot-kick.

“In any case, I want to apologise to all the tifosi and my teammates. I thank the fans for their support. I can assure them that we will not give in now.”
