It is still early days, as Fatih Terim’s Galatasaray have only just approached Roma and the French midfielder, whereas Fenerbahce had been ready to match his €3m plus bonuses salary.

The 30-year-old was purchased from Sevilla a year ago for €26m plus bonuses, but is just one of several buys completed by former director of sport Monchi that the Giallorossi are now trying to reverse.

Nzonzi made 39 competitive appearances for Roma last season, contributing one goal and two assists, but never quite settled into Serie A life.
