Stade Rennais chief Nicolas Holveck confirms they are eager to keep Steven Nzonzi, but must negotiate a deal with Roma first.

The 32-year-old was purchased from Sevilla in 2018 for €26.65m, bit failed to make an impact at the Stadio Olimpico.

He went on loan spells at Galatasaray and Rennes, but is set to return to the Giallorossi.

“Nzonzi was a fundamental player for us this season, he was out metronome in midfield,” Rennes President Holveck told L’Equipe.

“We will talk to him about next season. He is certainly an important player, but it all depends on what he wants to do.”

Nzonzi made 39 competitive appearances for the club this term, contributing one goal and one assist.

His contract with Roma only runs to June 2022.
