Nuno Tavares did not exactly have the most auspicious debut for Lazio, as the former Arsenal man lasted just 20 minutes before limping off injured.

The 24-year-old completed his transfer this week, on loan with obligation to buy for a total of €5m plus bonuses and a percentage of the sell-on fee.

He was launched straight into the starting XI for today’s friendly test against Trapani by coach Marco Baroni, but was forced to limp away after just 20 minutes of action.

Nuno Tavares injured on Lazio debut

The left-back sustained a problem to the flexor in his left thigh and went to sit on the bench with an ice pack strapped to his leg.

Luca Pellegrini came on instead and it remains to be seen how long Tavares will be out for.

It is an inauspicious start, especially as the Portuguese player already suffered with injury problems last season, failing to make much of an impact during the loan experience at Nottingham Forest.

A muscular issue had ruled him out for a month in February 2024.
