Former Benfica striker Nuno Gomes praised Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and compared him to Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

The 22-year-old Serbian forward joined the Bianconeri in January in an €80m total move from Fiorentina, becoming the key figure in a post-Cristiano Ronaldo era in Turin. Vlahovic’s start in Turin was slow but this season he’s been strong under Massimiliano Allegri, scoring four in his first five Serie A games of the campaign.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gomes first suggested that Vlahovic has everything needed to become a top striker on the international stage.

“He really has everything to become one and is among the best youngsters in his role. Time is on his side, he can grow a lot.”

He compared to Juventus forward to Manchester City star Haaland, who has netted 10 goals in his first six Premier League games.

“He has similar characteristics to Haaland, they can be the future for many years. I’d advise him to always work, in training and in the game, to improve and become even stronger.”

Finally, Gomes commented on some of the other forwards playing upfront alongside Vlahovic in Turin.

“Vlahovic can play with Milik, who is very strong. Di Maria is a champion, Kean, Kostic and Cuadrado are precious resources.”

Vlahovic shot to prominence during his three-and-a-half year spell with Fiorentina, netting 49 goals and providing eight assists in 108 appearances across all competitions.
