Former Fiorentina star Nuno Gomes feels Nico Gonzalez will be a key player for the Tuscans in a Conference League Final against Olympiacos tonight, but warns the Viola about the Greek side.

Ex-Portugal international Nuno Gomes contributed to Fiorentina’s last trophy in 2001 when the Viola won the Coppa Italia under Roberto Mancini, beating Parma in the Final.

“That night was fantastic for Fiorentina and me. The fans deserve another joy like that because they are exceptional. I hope they can celebrate in Athens, Florence, and wherever they are. Contrary to ours, this would be a European Cup as well,” Nuno Gomes told Gazzetta.

The ex-striker said he expects a “Thrilling and balanced match, between two teams that are in shape.

“It will be decided by the finest margins, so maximum concentration will be needed. The impact will be important, too, because Olympiacos will feel at home even if it’s not their stadium.”

Gomes is a fan of Fiorentina coach Italiano who is expected to leave the Franchi in June.

“Facts do the talking and he has reached three finals in two years. Now he deserves a trophy,” he said.

So, who will be decisive in tonight’s match?

“Nico Gonzalez can decide this final because he is a talented player,” said Nuno Gomes.

“But I’d also say Bonaventura or Biraghi who I like for his commitment on the pitch. Many will want to score, Nzola, Belotti, Kouame and a win would be even better because it would be in memory of Joe Barone.

“For Olympiacos. David Carmo is a strong, very aggressive centre-back. Porto paid €20m to sign him from Braga two years ago. Then there is Horta, a playmaker who knows how to make the team play well and is also good at free kicks. Podence is fast, scores consistently and has international experience. I must mention Chiquinho, too. He played for Benfica last season and could make smart moves. Carvalho is also dangerous. They can all create trouble.”
