Nottingham Forest have reportedly approached Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini and could make an attempt to sign him in January rather than as a free agent this summer.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Premier League side has set its sights on Gagliardini, who has seven senior caps for Inter.

The 28-year-old vented his frustration last week at the lack of playing time and confirmed he will not be signing a new contract, so is able to leave for free when his current deal expires on June 30.

There had already been suggestions of a move to the Premier League, as well as Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, but Nottingham Forest would seem to be prepared to make a bid in the current transfer window.

A product of the famous Atalanta youth academy, Inter purchased Gagliardini for €22.5m in January 2017.

He has fallen down the pecking order lately, managing just 14 appearances in all competition so far this season.
