Gilberto Gerali, one of the members of Mike Piazza’s consortium, says ‘too few guarantees’ from the FIGC caused their bid to buy Parma collapse.

Baseball legend Piazza today pulled out of the running to buy the stricken club, with it later being confirmed that the Ducali have been declared bankrupt, and will have to begin again in Serie D.

“I was on the phone until late with Mike and his partners, and they felt this investment was not sustainable or realistic,” Gerali told TvParma.

“Their current and future liabilities were too much. He [Piazza] had som much enthusiasm, he hoped until the last minute to convince his investors.

“I’m sorry for Parma and its employees, unfortunately it went wrong.

“The doubts were related to numbers: operating costs, future contracts still outstanding and FIGC gave too few guarantees.

“Could Piazza take over in Serie D? There’s been talk of that, and it’s premature to talk about it, but there’s still a small window of opportunity.”
