Yann Sommer was the target of criticism in the Italian newspapers after Inter’s disappointing draw with Genoa.

The Nerazzurri dropped points for the first time in five league matches when they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Ligurian outfit on Friday evening, with Marko Arnautovic’s opener being cancelled out by Radu Dragusin’s headed effort in the dying moments of the first half.

The result means Juventus now have the chance to close the gap at the top of the table to just two points, should they secure victory over a hungry Roma on Saturday evening.

For Sommer, it was his first real disappointment in the Inter net. He got a strong hand to the header but failed to parry it away, only managing to push it into the back of the goal.

Corriere dello Sport drew attention to the Swiss goalkeeper’s key error in the draw, writing: “That equalizing goal that splashed in front of him surprised him without giving him any appeal. By the time he realised, it was too late.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport tried to find more positives for Sommer but were also disappointed with his failure to save Dragusin’s header, commenting: “He concedes goals and this is already news, Dragusin’s header was certainly not unsavable. Reactive on Vasquez, precise with his feet. But it’s not a memorable evening.”

Sommer’s ratings in the Italian newspapers

La Gazzetta dello Sport: 5

Corriere dello Sport: 5.5

Tuttosport: 5

  1. Yes Sommer had an off game. The defenders and attackers in front of him had off games too. A tie is better than a loss!
