According to Sky Sport Italia, Arsenal have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The 22-year-old was reportedly close to joining Tottenham Hotspur despite Spurs’ opening €18m bid had been rejected by Bologna.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Rossoblu want at least €20m to sell the Japan international and Arsenal have now joined the race to sign the centre-back.

Meantime, Bologna have already secured the services of Tomiyasu’s potential replacement, having announced the signing of Kevin Bonifazi from SPAL last week.

The Italian defender has joined the Stadio Dall’Ara for a reported €6m fee and has signed a contract until June 2025.

Tomiyasu joined Bologna from VV Sint-Truiden in a €7m deal in 2019 and has played 63 games in a Rossblu shirt.

The Japan international has 23 caps and one international goal to his name.

He made his senior Japan debut in October 2018 in an international friendly against Panamà.
