Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza and Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli have been ruled out of Italy’s upcoming clashes with Croatia and Portugal. 

The FIGC website confirmed today that the two players have left the training camp in Coverciano, believed to be because of injury problems.

Zaza spoke on Sunday of his desire to participate in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia, but muscular problems had put his availability in doubt.

Bianconeri defender Barzagli started in the Old Lady’s 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final on Saturday, but has also left the camp.

The 34-year-old had only recently returned to full fitness and will drop out of Antonio Conte’s squad for the crucial clash in Split on Friday evening.
