On Wednesday the Tuscan outfit released a statement expressing their intention to sue Mutu for abandoning training without justification and insubordination.

Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino is said to be pursuing a number of possible alternatives for the Romanian centre-forward.

Bologna's Marco Di Vaio and Sampdoria's Nicola Pozzi have already been mentioned, but speculation is mounting regarding Caracciolo.

The 29-year-old has scored five times in Serie A this season and is known to be attracting interest from Juventus.

"For now I have nothing new to say about Fiorentina," said Caracciolo's agent.

"What I can say is that he could be a tempting name for them, seeing that we are talking about a player whom Corvino has already asked for information in the past.

"I don't know if Brescia would be prepared to let him go. We'll see in the next few days," he concluded.
