The Gialloblu have a purchase option agreed with parent club Porto to buy the Argentine and they have now confirmed reports of their intention to exercise it, despite it being listed at €15m.
“This is our intention and we can confirm that we will exercise the option,” director general Giovanni Gardini is quoted as saying this week in the Italian Press.
Rumours have been that the club’s intentions are to then sell on the star, with a number of clubs interested, including Roma.
According to Verona’s President, though, Iturbe’s future for next season will be either still with Verona or abroad.
“Iturbe can be defined as predestined, he is able to decide a game in five minutes,” Maurizio Setti has told Tuttosport this week.
“He will certainly end up at a top club, we certainly want to redeem him and if a set of circumstances allowed for him to stay in Verona then it would be another dream come true.
“If he were to go to a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona, it would have been an honour to launch him.
“Even so, no Italian club has the economic capacity to buy him.”
