The Dutch international eventually joined the Giallorossi for €6m after weeks of talks between both clubs.

“My experience at Roma has been fantastic so far,” the 29-year-old custodian commented to Sky Sport Italia.

“Winning honours here at Roma is my only objective and this is the motive why I play football in the first place.”

Stekelenburg – because of an injury – and Roma began the campaign problematically, but things have improved for both.

“We had a few issues as the start of the season because there were so many new players who had to settle,” he continued.

“We are doing well right now though which shows just how much we have improved.”
