Former Italy and Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro says Gianluigi Buffon is “on a different level to everyone”.

The Bianconeri goalkeeper made his Serie A debut over 20 years ago, and also holds the record for the most Italy caps.

“Buffon? How could anyone trouble Gigi?” Cannavaro considered, speaking to Corriere dello Sport.

“Gigi is on a different level to everyone, no-one compares to him for what he’s done and what he’s continuing to do.

“Buffon? How could anyone trouble Gigi?” Cannavaro considered, speaking to Corriere dello Sport.

“Gigi is on a different level to everyone, no-one compares to him for what he’s done and what he’s continuing to do.

“Although he’s no longer young, having him behind you just gives you that extra security.”

Having discussed the Scudetto race at length, the World Cup-winner then discussed some other aspects of the Serie A season so far.

“The best so far? [Gonzalo] Higuain, but also [Paulo] Dybala. Is Higuain the best striker in the world? He’s good, but not the best. [Luis] Suarez and [Robert] Lewandowski are stronger.

“By the way, as a second striker Pipita is even better, when I was at Real with him he played well there.

“The midfield? A hat-tip to [Napoli’s] Jorginho, he’s done great things from the beginning. He always keeps it simple, plays it forward and doesn’t hold back physically.

“As for the defence, I’d say [Andrea] Barzagli he’s Italy’s best defender.

“Biggest disappointment? I’d say [Mohamed] Salah, after seeing him with Fiorentina I expected more. Maybe he’s paying for Roma’s form.”
