Marek Hamsik says he has no regrets about rejecting the offers of Europe’s biggest clubs. “I’m happy at Napoli.”

While the likes of Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani left after excelling at the Stadio San Paolo – both for Paris Saint-GermainHamsik has opted to remain.

“I made this decision because I like the city, the people, the club and the fans,” he told Il Mattino on Thursday.

“I’m happy to be in Naples and play for Napoli. It is a decision which makes me happier day after day…”

Napoli, in Serie B as recently as 2007, are now a competitive force in Italy and Europe – even if they were eliminated from the Champions League earlier this month.

“We won a trophy in 2012, the Coppa Italia, and it was amazing,” he added. “I want to win more honours to experience moments like that.

“The objective for us is still the same as it was at the start of the season – we want to win something and battle for the Scudetto.

“We are a bit behind in points [eight adrift of leaders Juventus], but we’re only mid-season. There are still plenty of games left.

“The Europa League? Swansea are a Premier League side, well organised and they certainly won’t be an easy opponent for us.

“However, we are the favourites and we are almost obliged to qualify.”
