Nehuen Perez’s transfer to Napoli has collapsed after the club ultimately decided not to make a move for the Udinese defender.

The Partenopei had been ready to welcome the 23-year-old Argentinian centre back this month, agreeing to pay the Bianconeri around €16m plus €2m in add-ons, and seemed to be just a step away from completing the deal.

Napoli began to get cold feet, however, as they were impressed by Leo Ostigard’s recent work, taking him off the market amidst interest from Torino and Udinese. The Norwegian defender had been identified by the Friulian side as their ideal replacement for Perez.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have now decided not to sign Perez this month, definitively slamming the brakes on the deal with Udinese, leaving the defender in the Friulian city for the near future.

Walter Mazzarri will stick with Ostigard, Juan Jesus, Natan and Amir Rrahmani as his centre backs, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Leander Dendoncker available as emergency replacements.
