No Mexico move for Vidal: ‘Too expensive for Club America’

President Santiago Banos has revealed Club America can’t afford signing Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal, even if the Nerazzurri let him leave on a free transfer.

The Nerazzurri midfielder has been linked with a move to Mexico this summer and rumours had suggested Club America were close to reaching an agreement with the Chile international.

The club’s patron has now quashed the rumours of a possible operation and said the Mexican side wouldn’t be able to sign a deal with Vidal even if Inter let him leave for free.

“We have had no contacts in this regard,” he said, according to Tuttosport. “It’s not possible that we could pay for a transfer of this type.

“Inter may not want anything, but it would still be too expensive for us. Vidal will not play for Club America next season.”

Vidal moved to Inter ahead of 2020-21 and played 23 times in Serie A, as Antonio Conte’s men picked up the club’s first Scudetto in 11 years.

He signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year, but could end up leaving already after one season, as Inter need to cut costs after the COVID-19 pandemic.
