Roberto Mancini is set to name his Italy line-up with no Juventus players involved for the first time in over 29 years.

With Federico Chiesa returning to Turin earlier in the week and Leonardo Bonucci left out of the squad due to concerns over his fitness, there will be no Bianconeri representatives with the Azzurri in the starting team or among the substitutes.

The formerly capped Juve players in Moise Kean, Manuel Locatelli and Mattia Perin were all left at home for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against England and Malta.

22-year-old Nicolo Fagioli was chosen to represent the Azzurrini, whilst 19-year-old  Fabio Miretti was left at home altogether.

The last time that Italy took to the field without any Juve players involved also came in a European Championship qualifier, all the way back in 1994.

Arrigo Sacchi was in charge at the time and his team went on to triumph 2-0 at the hands of Estonia thanks to goals from Christian Panucci and Pierluigi Casiraghi.

With a host of young Juve players starring in the first team under Massimiliano Allegri so far this season, it surely won’t be long before the Bianconeri are represented in the national team once again.

  1. That’s why the national team is struggling! The top teams should have more italian players! The next generation will lift the national team, Cheisa, Fagioli, Miretti etc etc…
