Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli will reportedly start for Italy against the Republic of Ireland, as some reserves didn’t impress.

It kicks off in Lille on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Azzurri have already qualified top of Group E and the result is therefore completely irrelevant for their tournament.

Antonio Conte announced in today’s meeting with the media that he will make “between seven and nine changes. To be honest, I had expected to make more.

“There is no division between first choice players and reserves, so tomorrow is an opportunity for everyone.”

According to Sky Sport Italia, Bonucci was set to be rested, especially as he is already on a yellow card, but will likely start tomorrow anyway.

This is because some of the alternates did not impress Conte during the last few training sessions.

Angelo Ogbonna had been hoping to play, but the West Ham United centre-back is one of those who is expected to remain on the bench.

Barzagli was already tipped to remain in place, so of the back three only Giorgio Chiellini could be rested.

Gigi Buffon is left out after suffering from flu symptoms, giving Salvatore Sirigu a chance to shine in France.

In attack, Simone Zaza is set to partner Ciro Immobile, as Conte continues to see Lorenzo Insigne unsuited to his system.

Federico Bernardeschi is battling Stephan El Shaarawy for a starting spot on the left side of midfield.

Italy (probable): Sirigu; Barzagli, Bonucci, Darmian; De Sciglio, Florenzi, Sturaro, Thiago Motta, El Shaarawy; Zaza, Immobile
