The Nerazzurri flirted with European qualification last season, before results towards the end of the season dampened their prospects.

But this season the situation so far has been very different with the club sitting fifth from bottom with nine points after 10 games, only two clear of the relegation zone.

For La Dea’s technical director, the chances likely to be made will be in the transfer window, rather than on the bench.

“The ideal thing for a club is to never have to resort to the January transfer market,” Sartori has told L’Eco di Bergamo this week.

“But unfortunately, given the situation we find ourselves in, it’s pretty clear that we’ll have to do it from the beginning.

“We need a midfielder but which midfielder it will depend on the system that the Coach will decide to deploy.

“Frankly, even I like everyone thought that after 10 games we would have a few more points. And even after the first few results, considering the performances.

“It is an adaptation. At the end of the summer market we lost Bonaventura and Consigli, whilst we have yet to see Gomez, and Estigarribia is out.

“We are looking for an identity. And Colantuono? No-one has ever had any doubts about him.”
