Milan are looking to tie down midfielder Ismael Bennacer to a new contract but a recent meeting with his agent reportedly saw no progress in the talks.

The 24-year-old Algerian played a key role for Stefano Pioli in the midfield last season, impressing when playing as the anchor in front of the defence. Bennacer appeared in 31 Serie A matches last campaign and looks set to remain a core part of the squad for the coming years.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, Bennacer’s agent was in Italy at the end of last week and he met Milan’s management to further discuss a new contract. The Rossoneri’s latest offer sits at around €3m net per season, but this wasn’t accepted as the Algerian is looking for more than double his current €1.7m net wages.

The two parties do want to move forward together and they’ll meet with Bennacer’s agent again after the summer transfer window closes in order to close out an agreement.
