Italy Under-21 boss Paolo Nicolato admits that while Sandro Tonali’s senior promotion “gives us a lot of pleasure, it also gives us some problems.”

Tonalo was drafted into the full Italy squad after Marco Verratti pulled out, leaving Nicolato with mixed feelings as he also had Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli pinched.

“It gives us a lot of pleasure, but it also gives us some problems,” he said at a Press conference.

The Azzurrini face Iceland and Armenia this international break, yet to concede a goal in four games under the CT and in a strong position to quality for the European U21 Championship if they win both fixtures.

“Two tough games are waiting for us, against teams who are doing well, but I’m also confident because we have a whole week ahead of us and we can prepare to the fullest, something that hardly happens for us.

“I expect a physical match against Iceland, due to the size of the opponents. However, we will also face a team in good form, given that their domestic season is nearly over.”
