Italy U21 coach Paolo Nicolato warns tomorrow’s crucial European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg is ‘like a cup final’ for the Azzurrini.

They have one foot in the competition, which will be held in March 2021 in Hungary and Slovenia, after Tommaso Pobega’s brace secured victory away to Iceland.

On Sunday at 16.30 GMT, they visit Luxembourg and a win there could well be enough to mathematically secure top spot in Group 1 ahead of the Republic of Ireland.

“We have an important opportunity here, so we need to put in the right determination and spirit to get a result that is not to be taken for granted,” coach Nicolato told Rai Sport.

“I will field the best possible XI, because this game is like a cup final for us.”

Verona defender Matteo Lovato has left the training camp after picking up an injury against Iceland.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo striker Giacomo Raspadori has joined up after getting the all-clear from his Covid-19 test, but Fiorentina’s Federico Brancolini and Patrick Cutrone are still waiting for their results.
