Paolo Nicolato is convinced Italy will ‘build something important’ at Under-21 level after debuting with a 4-0 win against Moldova but has called for patience.

Nicolato replaced the unpopular Luigi Di Biagio over the summer and led the Azzurrini to victory in his first game, with the CT seeing enough to suggest the future was bright.

“It was a fairly positive test for us,” he told Rai Sport after the friendly.

“It was a fairly positive test for us,” he told Rai Sport after the friendly.

“We had different solutions at our disposal and I’m satisfied with how we set ourselves up on the field.

“In the first half, we worked mainly on keeping the ball. In the second half, however, with our opponents tiring, we expressed ourselves better.

“Overall, however, I’m satisfied. It’ll be a proper game against Luxembourg. We’ll slowly build something important.”
