Nicola wants a ‘carpe diem’ Genoa

Genoa coach Davide Nicola has urged his players to seize the moment and ‘grasp everything you need to reach the target’.

The Rossoblu resume against Parma tonight and with three wins in their last four games, Nicola wants to start where they left off.

“Where we left off is interesting. I count and concentrate on where we are and where we need to go,” Nicola told the club’s official website. “We have 12 games left to reach our target.

The Rossoblu resume against Parma tonight and with three wins in their last four games, Nicola wants to start where they left off.

“Where we left off is interesting. I count and concentrate on where we are and where we need to go,” Nicola told the club’s official website. “We have 12 games left to reach our target.

“Football is our passion, but it can’t heal wounds and make us forget who’s gone. Football can entertain, in the true etymological sense of the word. Turn elsewhere and have fun.

“We can look around as much as we want but there is no more useful meaning than the period that just passed.”

Nicola has urged Genoa to seize the moment as they prepare for their first match after the interruption, facing a Gialloblu returned with a 1-1 draw against Torino.

“The guys have worked with dedication and commitment. We must be aware of the fact that we have 12 games in an extreme period.

“We need a Genoa that have a clear understanding of ‘carpe diem’, a Genoa that have the ability to grasp everything you need to reach the target.

“Then, they must immediately reset, recover and prepare again for the next game, because we play every three days. We need a ‘carpe diem’ Genoa.”

Genoa experienced the empty stands during their 2-1 win at San Siro and tonight the Marassi will be without spectators against Parma.

“This applies to everyone, unfortunately. We will not have our people close to us. It’s a concept that goes beyond simple physicality. It’s clear that we would all prefer to have our fans by our side, but at the same time we know who we represent and it’s not enough to have them close.

“We always carry them with us and in this spirit we enter the pitch to offer a great performance.”
