New Salernitana boss Davide Nicola acknowledges that the Granata ‘must change’ to gain Serie A survival and claims that the contract’s length is ‘not important.’
Nicola is the third Salernitana coach this season. He was announced yesterday, but the club failed to reveal when their deal with the 48-year-old would expire.
“I don’t do this job because of contracts. I am only focused on the next three months, I will think about what comes next at the right time,” Nicola said at his unveiling press conference.
“This is an important team, there is great affection from fans. I can work with a great staff, Simone Barone who will be one of my assistants. The coach is important, but I’d go nowhere alone.
“There are great professionals here and we’ll try to reach our target, which is Serie A survival. The players are committed and this is crucial. They are aware that we need something different to turn things around.”
Nicola will have an arduous task in his debut at the Stadio Arechi on Saturday when Salernitana host Stefano Pioli’s Milan.
“We must have high motivation because we face a top team. We must keep our identity regardless of the opponent, we look to the target with courage and organization,” said Nicola.
“I don’t know what we will obtain this season, but we must believe that we can reach the target. We must change, but we can get great satisfaction.”
