Nice have decided to cancel coach Francesco Farioli’s scheduled press conference today as one of their players reportedly threatens to commit suicide.

Update (14.19 BST): French reports suggest that Beka Beka has since descended from the bridge and is no longer in danger, being rescued by firefighters.

News broke this morning that 22-year-old midfielder Alexis Beka Beka was sat on the Magnan bridge, threatening to throw himself off and commit suicide. The incident is ongoing and various members of the emergency services, as well as the club’s psychologist, are talking to the player.

Farioli was due to speak to the media today ahead of Nice’s clash against Brest on October 1, but Foot Mercato reports that the club have decided to cancel his press conference due to the situation.

The French side currently sit second in the Ligue 1 table after six games, sitting one point behind league leaders Brest and one ahead of third place Paris Saint-Germain.

Beka Beka, the player at the centre of this incident, has not featured for Nice this season. He joined last year from Lokomotiv Moscow and made 22 appearances in his debut campaign.
