The French striker struggled for playing time and goals wearing a Rossoneri jersey, but was a revelation for the Grifone over the last six months.
“I am very happy to have renewed my contract with Milan to 2019,” Niang told Foot Mercato.
“With this extension I feel the club and Coach have faith in me. In December I decided to go to Genoa on loan because I had to play in order to prove I could become an important figure at Milan.
“Thanks to Genoa and the staff, I did well in these six months and have the opportunity to go back to the Rossoneri.
“I return to Milan in a different state of mind. It’s not a question of taking revenge on doubters, but of showing what I can do.”
However, as the club signed Carlos Bacca from Sevilla and Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar Donetsk, how much playing time will Niang realistically get?
“There is competition in all clubs. I spoke to the Coach and the club, so I know they are relying on me. It’s down to me now to give the right response.
“Milan aren’t in Europe and that’s a serious blow. We must do everything to get back into the Champions League and even challenge Juventus for the Scudetto.”
