Newcastle United fans react to Tonali debut in friendly

Sandro Tonali made his Newcastle United debut in a pre-season friendly against Rangers FC, where he seemingly impressed his new fans.

The 23-year-old Italian midfielder left Milan for the Magpies earlier this month in a deal worth around €80m total, signing a five-year contract with the Premier League side.

Newcastle were recently taken over by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIF and have started to rapidly build a new project in the Northeast, with Tonali’s arrival being a symbol of their desire to take the next steps.

Tonali donned a Newcastle shirt on the pitch for the first time in their pre-season friendly against Rangers, playing the first 45 minutes of the match in Glasgow.

He impressed supporters with his work rate, strong passing and ability to dictate tempo from the midfield, exciting them ahead of the coming Premier League season.

Tonali briefly commented on the match on his Instagram page, writing: “Good start! Focused on the next.”
